Infantino’s era is over, says La Liga boss as pressure mounts on Fifa

La Liga president Javier Tebas has declared that Gianni Infantino's time as Fifa president has come to an end, alleging that he is "destroying the very essence" of football. Tebas, who has been La Liga's leader since 2013, claims that Infantino's management style is detrimental to the growth of the sport, particularly the national leagues.

Despite the recent failure of Infantino's plan to seek private investment in a company that would oversee Fifa's competitions, Tebas maintains that his tenure has become untenable. In an interview with French newspaper Le Monde, Tebas expressed his hope for a genuine overhaul rather than simply swapping out a few people. While Fifa has criticized its critics, accusing them of attempting to undermine his authority, the Mexico and Argentina associations have shown support for Infantino.

Notably, a European boycott of the World Cup remains in place, despite Infantino's apology for the failed investment plan. Tebas emphasized that the issues plaguing football extend beyond one individual and point to a broader systemic problem within the sport and its governing bodies.
