Indian Woman's Partner Arrested In Toronto 7 Months After Her Murder

In a significant development, Abdul Ghafoori, a 32-year-old man, has been apprehended in Toronto for the alleged murder of his Indian partner, Himanshi Khurana, more than seven months after her disappearance, according to a local media report. Ghafoori was seized at a Toronto airport on Friday upon his return to Canada and faces charges of first-degree murder, as reported by CBC News.

The case pertains to the death of 30-year-old Khurana, whose lifeless body was discovered inside a residence in Toronto in December of the previous year. The Toronto Police were alerted to her absence on December 19, and her remains were identified as those of Khurana two days later. Forensic investigations confirmed that her demise was a homicide, and Ghafoori was established as her intimate partner.

Despite the issuance of a warrant for Ghafoori's arrest and a nationwide search, he evaded capture for several months. Law enforcement agencies, including the Fugitive Squad and Homicide and Missing Persons Unit, collaborated with domestic and foreign authorities to secure Ghafoori's return to Canada. The mandatory sentence for a first-degree murder conviction in Canada is life imprisonment, with the possibility of parole denied for 25 years.

The Consulate General of India in Toronto expressed sorrow over Khurana's passing and pledged to provide all necessary aid to her family in coordination with local authorities.
