Harimau Malaya book Asean Cup semi-final spot with 1-0 win over Philippines

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 — Malaysia's national football team, Harimau Malaya, secured their spot in the semi-finals of the 2026 Asean Cup after a 1-0 victory over the Philippines. The match took place at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras, with the team's interim head coach Tan Cheng Hoe's charges displaying determination throughout the game.

The crowd's support, wearing black and yellow, was a significant factor in motivating the team. Wan Kuzain Wan Ahmad Kamal scored the opening goal in the 16th minute, setting the tone for Malaysia's dominance. Despite the Philippines' efforts to equalize in the second half, Harimau Malaya's resilient defense, led by captain Paulo Josue, thwarted their attempts.

The win earned Malaysia nine points, securing their second-place finish in Group B alongside Thailand. The defending champions, Vietnam, will face Harimau Malaya in the two-leg semi-final scheduled for Aug 16 and 19.
