Gachagua to Kindiki: I’m not your brother, deal with your own problems

Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has instructed Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to focus on his own issues and remain within President William Ruto's inner circle. This was Gachagua's stance on Sunday, August 9, 2026, when he confronted Kindiki over his behavior during their tenure in the Kenya Kwanza administration. Gachagua stated, "Even if you encounter problems while working with Ruto, handle them there.

I am not your brother." He further likened their relationship to that of a sibling, asking, "If a person is your brother, can you ask your mother for help? Do you call a person your brother and ask him to find your mother?" Gachagua also challenged Kindiki's claim that he had always treated him with respect. He questioned whether Kindiki had ever spoken poorly of Gachagua when Gachagua was in office.

Gachagua further criticized Kindiki for his role in opposing the campaign against illicit alcohol while serving as the Interior Minister. He alleged that Kindiki had sabotaged the fight against illicit alcohol, declaring, "It is Kindiki who sabotaged our campaign against cheap alcohol. So how can you claim to have helped us?" Gachagua highlighted the severity of the illicit alcohol issue, asserting that it had claimed the lives of many young people and accusing Ruto of allowing this problem to persist in their community.

He cited reports of over 300 deaths that he said kept him awake at night. Gachagua also mentioned a cheap alcoholic drink that he claimed could be lethal when consumed by multiple individuals. The remarks from Gachagua come as political rivalry intensifies within the Mt Kenya region, with Kindiki positioning himself as a regional unifier.
