Everything Texans DC Matt Burke said following Day 9 of training camp

Houston Texans defensive coordinator Matt Burke provided updates following Day 9 of the team's training camp practice on Saturday evening. Burke commented on the defense's performance, saying they had some good plays but were not happy with the start of practice. He highlighted that as the practice progressed, the players began executing better in call-up periods.

Burke also mentioned that Derek Stingley Jr. had a rest day and that Jadeveon Clowney, the team's newest defensive end, had impressed him with his disruption and understanding of the system. Regarding young linebackers, Burke expressed satisfaction with Azeez Al-Shaair, Henry To'oTo'o, Wade Woodaz, Te Marte Mapu, and Jake Hummel, noting their improved performance and potential.

On CB Collin Wright, Burke praised his consistent effort and sharpness, emphasizing that he always stays in the right place. In terms of the defensive line, Burke commended the return of Sheldon Rankins and Tommy Togiai, as well as the emergence of Kayden McDonald, Logan Hall, Kyonte Hamilton, and Naquan Jones. Lastly, Burke stressed the importance of communication on the defense, citing DeMeco Ryans' focus on improving pre-snap awareness and communication among the players.
