Egypt, Chad expand cooperation in civil aviation

The Egyptian-Chadian Business Forum convened discussions on economic and investment cooperation, as well as specialized talks on civil aviation to enhance air connectivity and transport between Egypt and Chad. This took place during the fourth session of the Egyptian-Chadian Joint Committee, held in Chad's capital, N'Djamena, with participation from ministers, officials, and business representatives from both nations.

In line with the political leadership's directives to strengthen Egypt's relations with African countries and broaden areas of cooperation and regional integration, Egypt's Civil Aviation Minister Sameh El-Hefny, Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority head Captain Sameh Mohamed Fawzy, and pilot Karim Gamil represented Egypt. They engaged in talks with Chad's Minister of Transport, Civil Aviation, and National Meteorology, Fatime Goukouni Weddeye, to explore ways to develop cooperation in civil aviation and increase passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries.

They also met with the head of the Chadian Civil Aviation Authority and relevant working teams to discuss mechanisms for expanding passenger and cargo operations, as well as enhancing direct coordination between the two civil aviation authorities. The outcome of these talks included doubling the operational capacity for passenger transport and raising air cargo capacity by 125 percent.

Both countries also agreed to maintain technical and operational coordination, exchange expertise, and provide technical support in areas of mutual interest to enhance operational efficiency and facilitate airline work. A memorandum of understanding on civil aviation was signed by both sides to establish cooperation frameworks and support the development of the air transport system.

These steps highlight the significance of civil aviation as a pillar of regional integration, aiming to expand connectivity networks, facilitate the movement of people and goods, link markets, and promote trade and investment. These developments are expected to support Egypt and Chad's shared interests and contribute to development and integration efforts across Africa.
