Dozens of Nigerians freed after six months in jihadi captivity

Ninety-three Nigerian captives, mostly women and children, have been rescued from jihadi captivity after a six-month ordeal. The freed victims, seized on February 3 when a group of militants attacked their village in Woro, are now receiving medical attention and routine checks at a hospital in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state.

Among the rescued is Mary Ishaya, a 44-year-old woman who described the deplorable conditions they endured, including malnutrition and witnessing the deaths of their fellow captives. Some of the captives have lost hope of ever seeing their families again, while others recounted the physical and emotional scars they bear from the traumatic experience.

Despite the US providing military support to Nigeria to protect Christian citizens, much of the aid is limited to logistical and intelligence-gathering assistance.
