Deadly night in Western Cape as 11 killed in 3 shootings

In a series of three shootings on Saturday night, 11 individuals lost their lives across the Western Cape region. The tragic incidents occurred in Langa, Gugulethu, and Khayelitsha. In the Lingelethu West area of Khayelitsha, three men were fatally shot just before 11pm. Shortly thereafter, four men and a woman perished at Winnie Mandela Street in Langa. The final incident took place at around 4am in the Barcelona informal settlement of Gugulethu, where two men and a woman were killed.

Western Cape Police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa announced the deployment of additional reinforcements in these hotspots, along with other regions in the province. No arrests have been made thus far, and police are currently investigating the motives behind the shootings. Provincial Commissioner Lt General Sizakhele Dyantyi plans to visit the affected communities in Langa, Gugulethu, and Khayelitsha to oversee the reinforcements.

Tragedy also struck in Reiger Park, Ekurhuleni, on Friday night, when two Anti-Gang Unit members were killed while responding to gunfire. Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia will visit the scene of this incident on Sunday afternoon. National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimpane, along with Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni and Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, will accompany Cachalia to Reiger Park.
