Centre extends ED Director Rahul Navin's tenure by one year till August 2027

The Centre has granted an additional year to ED Director Rahul Navin, extending his tenure until August 2027. Navin, a 59-year-old 1993-batch Indian Revenue Service officer from the Income Tax cadre, has been leading the federal anti-money laundering agency since September 2023. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved the extension via an order issued on Saturday, allowing service beyond Navin's superannuation date of July 31, 2027, or until further notice.

This marks the first time an officer has been granted such an extension. Navin's appointment as ED Director began on September 15, 2023, and he was officially designated as the ED chief on August 14, 2024. During his tenure, the agency has pursued significant investigations involving political consultancy firm I-PAC, the Reliance Anil Ambani Group, and multiple online money gaming companies.

Navin, a graduate of IIT-Kanpur and Swinburne University of Technology, has authored several publications on international taxation and transfer pricing. He has over three decades of experience in the I-T Department, with expertise in international taxation, which aligns with his current role.
