Canada-Africa Summit: Lawal, Sani, others to represent Nigeria in Toronto

Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal is set to represent Nigeria at the inaugural Canada-Africa Investment Summit, slated to take place in Toronto from August 10 to 15, 2026. The summit, announced by Governor Lawal's spokesperson Sulaiman Bala Idris, will concentrate on digital infrastructure, inclusive economic growth, and bilateral investment opportunities between Africa and Canada.

Other Nigerian delegates include President Femi Gbajabiamila, Anambra's Governor Charles Soludo, Borno's Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, Kaduna's Governor Sen. Uba Sani, and Plateau's Governor Caleb Muftwang. The delegation also comprises prominent ministers: Foreign Affairs Minister Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Industry, Trade, and Investment Minister Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, and Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Governor Lawal's inclusion in the delegation follows his notable role in promoting Nigeria's diplomatic and economic ties during the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Economic Conference (NDIEC). The summit aims to bolster President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration's economic goals, notably through the National Energy Transition Plan and Canada-Nigeria economic cooperation.

For Zamfara State, the summit presents an opportunity to attract investments, technology transfer, funding, and partnerships in sectors like agribusiness, minerals, human capital development, and digital innovation. Governor Lawal's participation is expected to position Zamfara as a burgeoning center for these sectors. The summit transcends diplomacy, serving as a strategic economic mission to unveil new investment prospects for both Nigeria and Zamfara.
