Ahmedabad records 86% success in bringing back dropouts

Ahmedabad school teacher Neetaen Bhadresha achieved an 86% success rate in bringing back 57 children who had dropped out of her municipal school in the past academic year. The campaign to re-enroll the students involved the teacher tracking down the dropouts on her scooter, convincing parents to allow their children to return to school.

The challenge was that many parents viewed their children as "earning members" and insisted they help with work instead. Suketubhai Yagnik, a teacher at Jahangirpura Primary School, faced a similar issue, with over 80% of his 37 students being girls. The parents believed girls should not study after a certain age and instead should help with household chores.

Despite these obstacles, all 57 children eventually returned to school. In Ahmedabad, out of 10,387 enrolled, 9,036 students re-enrolled in schools, recording an 86% success rate.
