5 areas in Sarawak record unhealthy API readings

As of 6pm today, eight areas in Sarawak and one in Selangor have been flagged with unhealthy Air Pollution Index (API) readings, according to Malaysia's Air Pollution Index Management System (APIMS). In Sarawak, three new areas - Miri, Sarikei, and Sri Aman - joined five previously recorded areas with unhealthy levels due to cross-border haze.

The API readings ranged from 119 to 154 in Sarawak. In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded an API of 153, the only area in the Peninsula with unhealthy levels. Meanwhile, 57 areas across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak are experiencing moderate air quality, while Langkawi in Kedah and Kangar in Perlis are in good condition. The API scale categorizes readings as follows: 0-50 (good), 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy), and above 301 (hazardous).

The Malaysian Meteorological Department forecasts hot and dry weather in most Borneo regions until August 14, with the potential for transboundary haze and reduced visibility, particularly in southern Sarawak due to southern winds and high hotspot numbers from neighboring countries.
