19 bodies recovered from rubble of destroyed Gaza building

In Gaza City, civil defense officials have recovered nineteen bodies from the ruins of a residential building, most of whom were women and children. This marks the latest in a painstaking process of retrieving the deceased from damaged structures across Gaza. The operation, which concluded on Saturday, has been impeded by a shortage of heavy machinery required to dislodge the concrete slabs left behind by Israeli airstrikes.

Mohammed Abu Dan, who manages the recovery efforts, reported that the search ended at the "Karam" building after four days of investigation. Once completed, medics and defense crews will shift to a different location in Gaza City to continue their search. The Palestinian Health Ministry estimates that over eight thousand individuals are still missing under the debris throughout Gaza.

Since the ceasefire on October 11th last year, the ministry's records indicate that at least one thousand two hundred fifty-four people have been killed, four thousand one hundred twenty-one wounded, and eight hundred four bodies found in the rubble. As of now, the total death toll since October 2023 exceeds seventy-three thousand three hundred, with over one hundred seventy-four thousand people wounded.

The recovery mission follows a funeral in Gaza City on Tuesday for one hundred twelve individuals from the Abu Sharia and al-Hasayna families, whose remains were recovered from the rubble of a destroyed building in Gaza's Sabra district, which was demolished in an Israeli strike in November 2023.
