UN Security Council and European Union condemn Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia

On July 13, the United Nations Security Council and European Union issued harsh condemnations of Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial vessels. The Security Council expressed deep concern over the heightened tensions in Yemen, emphasizing the necessity to avoid actions that could jeopardize peace efforts and international security.

They condemned the unauthorized aircraft landings at Sana'a and Hodeidah airports without Yemeni government permission, violating international aviation regulations. The council reaffirmed their commitment to Yemen's sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, stressing that all flights to Yemen airports must receive prior approval from the Yemeni government.

They highlighted the critical need for safe, sustained air access for humanitarian and civilian purposes, in line with international law and aviation regulations. The council further emphasized compliance with Resolution 2216, which prohibits arms transfers and military assistance to sanctioned entities like the Houthis. The EU echoed these concerns, strongly condemning the attacks on Najran and Marib, as well as civilian facilities and infrastructure.

They called for an immediate end to the targeting of civilians and reiterated their solidarity with Saudi Arabia and the Yemeni government, warning that such escalations further undermine regional stability and the peace process.
