The Nixpkgs core team has disbanded

The Nixpkgs core team has announced its decision to disband after 10 months of service. They expressed pride in their accomplishments, such as reforming the committer delegation process, onboarding 19 new committers, and establishing an initial automation/AI policy. However, they acknowledged that the role was not as lightweight as initially hoped, and the team struggled with attrition and recruiting new members due to low response rates to their call for volunteers.

The team also noted that the Steering Committee (SC) lacked the necessary instinct for delegation and failed to engage cohesively, leading to micromanagement, poor communication, and inadequate coordination on important matters. They believe the SC's top-down voting system contributes to burnout and discourages productive discussion.

The team hopes that their decision will help dispel distrust in governance and encourage a more collaborative approach to decision-making and dispute resolution within the Nixpkgs community.
