Support Ruto in 2027, target presidency in 2032, allies tell Western Kenya

President William Ruto's allies in Western Kenya are pushing for support in the 2027 elections, with the ultimate goal of securing the presidency by 2032. Led by Ruto's personal assistant, Farouk Kibet, the region's political leaders are urging the area to abandon calls for a local presidential candidate in favor of backing Ruto for a second term.

Kibet emphasized the importance of building political alliances, stating that one cannot claim the presidency without first securing strong support. He advocated for Western Kenya to align with communities that reject ethnic politics and embrace a broader national coalition. This strategy aims to strengthen the region's position for future presidential aspirations.

Meanwhile, Sen. Edwin Sifuna of Linda Mwananchi has been floated as a potential 2027 presidential contender, but Ruto's allies have dismissed this idea, insisting that the candidate must have genuine support beyond symbolic value. Sen. Aaron Cheruiyot cautioned against presenting a candidate without a clear path to victory, reminding the region that past presidents, like Mwai Kibaki, faced challenges during their first terms.

Western Kenya's leaders, including South Mugirango MP Sylvanus Osoro and Butere MP Tindi Mwale, have echoed this message, urging residents to support the current administration's performance before contemplating a presidential bid.
