Suame Interchange Phase Two to be fully completed, handed over by October 2026 – Urban Roads Director-General

The local roads component of the Suame Interchange Phase Two project, overseen by the Department of Urban Roads, is set to be fully completed and opened to traffic by October 2026, according to James Oduro Amoo-Gottfried, the Director-General. This development will provide alternate routes for motorists and help alleviate traffic congestion in the Suame area, he explained at a stakeholders' engagement in Kumasi.

Phase One of the project involves constructing the main multi-tier interchange, including the overpass from the Suame Roundabout to Abrepo Junction, and widening the road along the Western Bypass. Phase Two, which encompasses approximately 15 kilometers of local roads within the project's area of influence, is nearly completed. It includes the construction of overpasses at Anomangye, New Road, and Ebusuakruwa.

These overpasses aim to improve northbound traffic movement within the area and offer additional routes for motorists. The main corridor between the Suame Roundabout and Abrepo Junction will also undergo significant improvements, such as widening to increase vehicular capacity and a grade-separated underpass at Abrepo Junction, which is one of the busiest points along the corridor.

This underpass will allow traffic from Bantama and the hospital area to pass directly underneath the junction, while vehicles using the bypass will remain at ground level. Concerns over traders and structures within the project's right of way have been addressed, with Amoo-Gottfried informing that individuals operating in the affected areas are there temporarily.

The Suame Municipal Assembly will engage these individuals to facilitate their relocation, enabling construction to proceed swiftly and efficiently.
