Speeding Mercedes hits another car, chain-collision kills woman; cop’s son held

On a Saturday morning, a speeding Mercedes allegedly collided with a WagonR, which then struck a delivery tempo, causing the death of a 70-year-old woman named Urmila Devi. The incident occurred around 8 am in Mamurpur village, Outer Delhi. Urmila, who was standing by the roadside, was hit when the Mercedes crashed into her. She was taken to a hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.

The Mercedes was driven by 27-year-old Shubham, the son of a Sub-Inspector with the Haryana Police. He was returning from a party at a friend's house when the accident took place. Shubham was arrested from the scene.

According to preliminary investigations, the Mercedes collided head-on with the WagonR, causing the WagonR to then collide with the delivery tempo. Urmila, an animal and bird lover, was standing along the roadside and was thrown onto the road, resulting in her fatal injuries. The WagonR driver, Narendra, sustained injuries in the crash. His wife, Geeta, was traveling with him but escaped with no significant injuries. Both vehicles involved in the accident were seized by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Shobhit D Saxena stated that all vehicles involved in the accident have been seized, and the police conducted videography of the scene. They also obtained the woman's post-mortem examination before handing over the body to her family. The preliminary enquiry revealed that Shubham was driving at a high speed.

Additionally, a bottle of liquor was allegedly found in the Mercedes. Police have collected Shubham's blood sample and sent it to the Forensic Science Laboratory for examination to determine if he had consumed alcohol at the time of the accident. The police registered a case under provisions relating to causing death by negligence and other relevant sections. Further investigation is currently underway.
