Sicherheit: Dobrindt: Neues Zentrum soll zu Drohnensicherheit forschen

Federal Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) has announced plans to expand research into drone security following the discovery of a drone equipped with explosives near Leipzig/Halle Airport. Dobrindt stated that the arms race in drone technology necessitates dedicated research units to keep pace. A new research facility for drone security is set to be established on August 18th at the test airport of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) in Cochstedt, Saxony-Anhalt.

This unique federal facility, in collaboration with DLR, will investigate, develop, and test innovative technologies for drone security in real laboratories. The goal is to achieve scientific excellence, technological innovation, and meet the security requirements of various authorities. The incident at Leipzig/Halle Airport involved a drone rigged with explosives and a fuse, which was brought down shortly after discovery near Ukrainian transport aircraft.

Subsequently, a flight collided with an unknown smaller flying object, believed to be a second drone. Dobrindt referred to this as a "hybrid" attack launched by "foreign powers," aiming to politically and socially subjugate Germany through instilling fear, confusion, and destabilization. Germany must continue to prepare for such attacks, as they are now a daily reality, characterized by espionage, sabotage, cyberattacks, and covert actions by foreign entities seeking to destabilize the nation or cause direct harm.
