Senate, NA leadership pledge closer cooperation for stable parliamentary system

ISLAMABAD - The leadership of Pakistan's Senate and National Assembly vowed on Saturday to deepen institutional collaboration and coordination for a stable parliamentary system, according to a Senate Secretariat statement. Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani convened a meeting with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah at his residence.

The discussion centered on parliamentary matters, national issues, and inter-institutional coordination, with the chairman emphasizing that close cooperation between the two chambers is vital for maintaining "strong democratic traditions and an effective parliamentary system".

Sadiq echoed this sentiment, stating that bolstering institutional collaboration is crucial for effective legislation and addressing public demands. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to enhancing cooperation between the Senate and National Assembly. The meeting also involved a thorough assessment of the country's current situation, with participants agreeing on the importance of promoting national interests, safeguarding the Constitution, and fostering democratic stability.

A day prior, Gilani had inaugurated the Senate Secretariat's newly renovated office complex, highlighting the move as part of broader institutional reform efforts to strengthen parliamentary capacity and improve service delivery. Gilani stressed that robust democratic institutions necessitate modern systems, efficient infrastructure, and a professional work environment.
