Senate, NA leadership pledge closer cooperation for stable parliamentary system

Islamabad witnessed a significant development on Saturday as the leadership of the Senate and National Assembly pledged closer cooperation to ensure a stable parliamentary democratic system. Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani met with National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Deputy Speaker Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah at the Senate Chairman's residence.

The meeting, which centered on parliamentary affairs, matters of national importance, and inter-institutional coordination, emphasized the indispensable role of close coordination between the two Houses for upholding "strong democratic traditions and an effective parliamentary system."

Both Sadiq and Gilani reiterated their commitment to strengthening institutional collaboration for effective legislation and meeting public expectations. They also held a comprehensive discussion on the country's overall situation, agreeing on the necessity to promote national interests, uphold constitutional supremacy, and advance democratic stability.

The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing communication and mutual respect between parliamentary institutions, aiming to further consolidate harmony and cooperation between the Senate and the National Assembly.

The meeting came a day after Gilani inaugurated the newly modernized office complex of the Senate Secretariat at Parliament House. Gilani highlighted the importance of modern systems, efficient infrastructure, and a professional working environment, positioning the upgrade as part of a broader reform agenda to improve service delivery and enable the Secretariat to support Parliament in fulfilling its constitutional responsibilities.
