Pro Football Hall of Fame Grand Parade celebrates fun, fans in Canton

Canton, Ohio witnessed a grand display of football enthusiasm on August 8, as the Pro Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Festival Grand Parade unfolded along Cleveland Avenue. The parade, presented by Certified Angus Beef, attracted thousands of fans, featuring floats, marching bands, and football royalty.

Stephen Burch, a retired businessman from Syracuse, New York, and his 21-year-old son Noah joined thousands of fans, driving over 370 miles to experience their favorite player, Drew Brees, being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Burch, a lifelong Saints fan, expressed his excitement about witnessing the moment in person. Drew Brees himself had a memorable moment, stating, "Drew Brees won me a championship, so that's why I’m here."

Maria Vaughn, a balloon handler in her sixth year of the parade, delighted the crowd by spinning a massive pink octopus balloon as the chant "Spin it! Spin it!" echoed through the streets. Donna Mertes, an 85-year-old Canton resident and great-grandmother, proudly attended the parade for the 51st time, accompanied by four generations of her family. Doughnuts, a staple of the parade morning routine, were a hit among attendees like Tammi Toth, who brought a dozen to share with her family.

The parade also celebrated the return of a 1945 Willys MB Jeep, operated by Larry Powell of East Canton, marking its inaugural appearance in the event. The military vehicle, owned by Powell's father, a World War II veteran, was restored and represents the rich history of the community.
