NDC historiographies unveiled ahead of launch on 28 September at UPSA

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has introduced a six-volume publication chronicling the political history of the party and Ghana's 4th Republic. This endeavor aims to safeguard the party's legacy and enhance institutional memory for future generations. The collection chronicles the NDC's journey from its inception to the present, encompassing pivotal moments such as media coverage, leadership elections, manifesto creation, constitutional reforms, and other significant events in the party's development.

Ahead of the official launch on September 28, 2026, at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), copies of the books were ceremonially presented to the National Chairman of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, and the party. Upon receiving the books, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah stated that this project is merely the start of a broader initiative to systematically document the party's history and administrative records.

"We will progress to a stage where we can document the minutes of our meetings," he emphasized. "Should anyone wish to consult the decisions the party has ever made, they should be able to trace the meeting, date, and minutes to understand precisely how those decisions were reached."

Mr. Asiedu Nketiah commended the team involved in compiling the historical records, highlighting the inclusion of the party's original founding documents submitted to the Electoral Commission during its registration. "We now possess accurate documentation of the party's founding, the original documents bearing the signatures of our founding fathers, and our progression from the first election to today," he stated.

He further explained that the publication comprises a manifesto volume, which traces the shifting priorities of the nation through various election manifestos. By closely examining the manifesto, readers can discern the prevailing national needs at the time each manifesto was drafted, thereby appreciating the historical backdrop of those decisions.

Another volume in the series delves into the evolution of the NDC's constitution, offering historical context to contemporary debates surrounding internal party governance. Reflecting on the party's early days, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah recounted that candidates for parliamentary positions were initially chosen prior to the implementation of competitive internal primaries. He explained how the NDC's democratic structures have evolved over time, providing a glimpse into the party's growth and adaptation.

During the official launch, noted political figures and academics will engage in book review discussions to stimulate conversations about the party's history, institutional development, and its contribution to Ghana's democratic journey. Additionally, it is planned that proceeds from the sale of the books will be utilized to support cancer treatment and cardio therapy units.

The NDC, through its Chairman, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah, has urged both party members and the general public to purchase the books as a means of supporting this commendable initiative.
