NBA forward Clarke's death due to effects of drugs

In May 2026, NBA forward Brandon Clarke died as a result of the effects of heroin and cocaine, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner. The 29-year-old was discovered unresponsive in a bedroom at a San Fernando Valley house on May 11th and was pronounced dead by paramedics. The medical examiner's office also noted that multiple prescription medications significantly contributed to his death, although it did not specify which drugs. The medical examiner stated that a full report would be released at a later time.

Born in Vancouver, Clarke was a dual citizen of Canada and the USA. He was initially drafted by the Oklahoma City Thunder but was traded to the Grizzlies shortly after. Clarke played only two games during the 2025-26 NBA season due to injuries.
