My server is a phone now

My server is now a phone. I previously hosted my infrastructure on a Hetzner VPS, but found the costs too high. The CMF Phone 1, an inexpensive device with powerful specifications, caught my attention as a potential replacement. Despite Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and hardware acceleration being marked as broken, I managed to restore the phone to its factory settings.

I opted for Termux instead of a conventional Linux distribution, leveraging its ability to run OpenSSH, runit, Caddy, Cloudflared, and normal Unix tooling. By utilizing runit and Termux:Boot for process supervision, I ensured the phone remained responsive even when rebooting. Ansible configuration helped optimize the phone's resources, enabling stable operation as a server.

While not a traditional Linux server, the CMF Phone 1 still provides the necessary Linux kernel and capable userland to support my applications. With minor adjustments and host profiles, my web services and Surf browser were able to operate smoothly on the phone. In conclusion, the CMF Phone 1 has successfully replaced my previous VPS, offering reliable server functionality at a fraction of the cost.
