Man City agree deal to sign Marseille keeper Rulli

Manchester City has reached an agreement to sign Marseille goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli for a fee of £1.7 million. The 34-year-old Argentine is set to return to his former club, the Etihad Stadium, where he played for the 2016-17 season but did not feature in the first team. Rulli has signed a two-year contract with the Premier League champions.

Notably, Rulli scored a penalty during Villarreal's victory over Manchester United in the 2021 Europa League final, and he also managed to stop David de Gea in the subsequent penalty shootout. He has represented Argentina in eight international matches and was a key player in their World Cup and Copa America triumphs in 2022. Rulli's career has also seen stints at Real Sociedad, Montpellier, and Ajax.

This signing comes as a replacement for England goalkeeper James Trafford, who recently moved to Leeds following a deal worth up to £45 million. Rulli will serve as the understudy to City's first-choice goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma.
