Industrialists concerned at truckers’ strike

The industrial community in Pakistan has expressed grave concern over a nationwide strike by goods transporters, which threatens industrial and economic activity. Business leaders warn that a prolonged disruption in raw material supplies could severely impact production, exports, and the overall economy. Abdul Rehman Fudda, President of the SITE Association of Industry, emphasized that the strike has created an alarming situation for manufacturers, as factories depend on timely supply of raw materials and delivery of finished goods.

He cautioned that a lack of raw materials will stall production, while delays in dispatching finished products will exacerbate financial stress for industries. SAI Chief Saeed Akhtar warned that the transport disruption is an unbearable burden for industries, especially the export sector, which is already facing multiple challenges.

If export consignments fail to reach buyers on time, industries could face penalties, price cuts, or even damage claims. SAI C Chief urged the government to intervene urgently and resolve the dispute through negotiations with the transporters. However, Sheikh Tehseen, President of the Federal B Area Association of Trade and Industry, expressed fear that the strike could adversely affect industries in the Federal B Area.

He highlighted the difficulties faced in transporting finished goods from factories to upcountry and exports, and urged the government to resolve the issues faced by transporters and restore goods transport to keep the economic engine running.
