Exhausted Vollering reclaims yellow jersey with one stage remaining

Demi Vollering has reclaimed the Tour de France Femmes yellow jersey with 17 seconds to spare ahead of Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney. The Dutch cyclist unleashed a powerful assault on the eight-stage race and secured the coveted yellow jersey as the race heads into its concluding stage. Vollering's victory came after the final climb proved to be too much for her title rival.

Both the 2024 champion and her title rival Niewiadoma-Phinney finished the stage 17 seconds behind Vollering. The Dutchwoman claimed the yellow jersey during the eighth stage by attacking on a small climb, leaving her title rival Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney to sit back in the saddle as Vollering surged ahead. Vollering described the moment as a dream come true, stating that she had been working towards this moment throughout the day.

The Polish rider, who won the Giro d Italia this year, is now eight seconds ahead of Niewiadoma-Phinney in the overall standings. The final stage will feature four sharp climbs including the challenging Col d'Èze, and Vollering will need to ensure she doesn't face a repeat of last year's race where Niewiadoma-Phinney narrowly beat her by just four seconds.
