Exhausted Vollering reclaims yellow jersey with one stage remaining

Demi Vollering reclaimed the Tour de France Femmes yellow jersey with just one stage remaining, completing a remarkable sprint to victory. The Dutch cyclist launched a blistering attack during the eighth stage, leaving her title rival Katarzyna Niewiadoma-Phinney behind by 17 seconds. The final stage, a grueling 172km route from Sisteron to Nice, was set to test Vollering's endurance.

Vollering, who had won the Giro d Italia earlier this year, completed the hat-trick of Grands Tour victories. Niewiadoma-Phinney and Elisa Longo Borghini, both 17 seconds behind, could not close the gap as Vollering crossed the finish line in triumph. The Polish rider's victory came just a day after her impressive solo win up Mont Ventoux.
