Currie Cup result: Pumas survive Bulls comeback

In a close Currie Cup game, the Pumas achieved a narrow bonus-point victory over the Bulls XV at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. The Pumas, coached by Jimmy Stonehouse, took an early 19-point lead before facing a setback in the second half. Despite the setback, they managed to hold on and win 33-31. The win secured the Pumas' position in third place, while the Bulls, who had not won a match all season, remained at the bottom of the log.

The match was characterized by five yellow cards and a red. The Pumas took an early lead with a try from winger Alfondso Isaacs. The Bulls suffered a significant blow when flank Abongile Nonkontwana was shown yellow for a shoulder tackle and later red, leading to Pumas captain Willie Engelbrecht and lock JJ Scheepers scoring tries.

The Bulls scored a penalty try after Isaacs tackled a probable try scorer without the ball, but the Pumas were penalized with a sin-bin for Isaacs. The Pumas then fell to 12 men when hooker Siphosethu Mnebelele and replacement loose forward Cephas van Biljon received yellow cards for cynical breakdown infringements. The Bulls managed to score a try through Johnathan Eloff in the dying moments of the first half, reducing the deficit to five points at halftime.

With both teams restored to full strength, the Bulls took the lead early in the second half with Eloff scoring again. However, the Pumas were not to be denied, as replacement hooker Jan-Henning Campher scored two tries to give the Pumas the victory. The Bulls' replacement prop Sandi Msengana also scored once.
