Bui Power Authority doubles solar capacity to 105MWp, posts US$66.2m Profit in 2025

In 2025, the Bui Power Authority (BPA) nearly doubled its solar generation capacity to 105 megawatts peak (MWp), while achieving a net profit of US$66.2 million. This increase in solar capacity brought the total installed generation portfolio to 404 megawatts, comprising 55 MWp of hydropower and 105 MWp of solar energy. The Authority's financial performance reflects improvements in its operations, with electricity generation generating US$145.9 million in revenue for the year.

BPA's Chief Executive, Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam, emphasized the company's resilience during significant leadership changes within Ghana's energy sector. Despite the transitions affecting the Ministry of Energy, the Board of Directors, and Executive Management, BPA remained focused on its mandate and adapted to the sector's new strategic direction.

The CEO highlighted that the growth in renewable energy generation aligns with BPA's strategy to diversify its generation portfolio and contribute to Ghana's transition towards cleaner, cheaper, and more sustainable energy systems.

The authority reaffirmed its commitment to improving financial sustainability and creating long-term value for the country. Ing. Kow Eduakwa Sam also underscored the importance of workplace safety, disclosing that BPA recorded zero lost-time injuries during the year. This achievement was attributed to the authority's strong safety culture and emphasis on accident and incident prevention.

Looking ahead, BPA aims to expand its renewable energy projects to strengthen Ghana's energy security and support the country's transition to cleaner and more sustainable energy systems. The authority emphasized its dedication to contributing to a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Ghana.
