BJP OBC Morcha to organise ‘Cheneta Sammelanam’ in Vijayawada on August 5

The Andhra Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party OBC Morcha is set to host a "Cheneta Sammelanam" in Vijayawada on August 5, coinciding with National Handloom Day. The event aims to highlight the significance of the handloom sector and the handloom industry's contribution to India's cultural heritage and freedom movement. Addressing the media, BJP OBC Morcha State president Rongala Gopi Srinivas emphasized the importance of handloom weaving as a symbol of India's traditions and indigenous spirit.

He also mentioned that the handloom industry has earned global recognition for India's civilisation. The convention will commence at 9.30 a.m. and will be preceded by a rally from the BJP State office under the slogan "We Stand With Modi." The rally is intended to showcase support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiatives to strengthen the handloom sector and enhance the welfare of weavers.

Recently, the BJP organised a roundtable conference on issues affecting handloom workers, discussing concerns related to age limits, loom ownership, and eligibility criteria under the "Nethannala Seva" scheme. The State government recently introduced amendments to the scheme through G.O. Ms. No. 187, dated July 29, 2026. Handloom weaving is not merely a profession but the primary source of livelihood for millions of families, with every loom representing the hopes of a family and every handwoven fabric embodying India's rich cultural legacy.

The event, described as more than just a gathering, aims to protect weavers' dignity, secure the future of the handloom sector, and promote self-reliance and indigenous production. The Morcha invites handloom workers, weavers' association representatives, public representatives, party leaders, activists, and members of the public to participate in large numbers.

Additional activities such as exhibitions, rallies, and public meetings will also be organized as part of the programme.
