Bengaluru: Govt. school teacher suffers severe injuries following tree-fall, hospitalised

In Bengaluru's west part, a 58-year-old government school teacher named Balaji T. was gravely injured when a fully grown tree crashed onto him on Wednesday near Attiguppe. The incident occurred around 1.30 p.m. while Balaji was on his scooter, conversing with one of his students. The unfortunate student also received minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

However, Balaji's injuries are more severe, affecting both of his legs and potentially his spinal cord, as reported by a senior Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) official. The tree in question, a Spathodea campanulata, was in good health and had been recently pruned. The GBA is still investigating the cause of the tree's sudden fall.

G.K. Sudarshan, Deputy Conservator of Forests, stated that the GBA will assist Balaji's family with the associated medical expenses. Balaji is set to undergo two surgeries, either on Thursday night or Friday morning, according to sources. This marks the third such incident within the past 40 days, with the previous two happening in June.

In mid-June, a man and a woman in B.M. Kaval Park, east Bengaluru's Indiranagar, were also injured after a tree branch snapped and fell on them, one suffering head injuries and the other severe back injuries, both currently hospitalized. Days before that, a 52-year-old man slipped into a coma after a tree branch fell on him, causing severe head injuries.
