Wright State basketball: Sargent says, ‘I really like our team,’ after summer workouts

Clint Sargent, the third-year coach at Wright State, expressed his satisfaction with the team's results after an intense eight-week summer practice period. Sargent has three children, ranging from 4 to 12 years old, who are all avid supporters of the basketball team. He explained that his kids learn about the players' backgrounds and names when they visit the household, making them feel like quasi-babysitters when the players are around.

Sargent acknowledged the difficulty of losing players who transfer out of the program, stating that it's a brutal reality for most college basketball teams. However, he emphasized that he and his coaching staff strive to support their players' decision-making processes and understand that it's not always personal. This summer, Wright State had nine newcomers (four freshmen and five transfers) join five returning players, with no significant health issues reported among the team.

The coach highlighted the team's physicality, passing skills, and defensive capabilities as standout attributes. He also praised the players' hunger for improvement and their potential to become great leaders. Sargent noted that the two Serbian transfers, Nikola Djapa and Ilija Milijaševic, have shown significant growth in their defensive skills and competitiveness.

He further commended the transfer players from Green Bay, CJ O'Hara, and College of Charleston, Chadlyn Traylor, for their work ethic and decision-making abilities. Overall, Sargent expressed optimism about the team's prospects for the upcoming season, citing their work ethic, humility, and competitiveness as key factors for future success.
