The late Sam Neill will reportedly feature in The Legend of Zelda film, making it very probably the actor's final on-screen role

Recent reports suggest that the late actor Sam Neill may have a starring role in the upcoming live-action Legend of Zelda film, potentially making it his final on-screen performance. The news was first reported by Deadline but could not be confirmed by Neill's former representatives or Sony, the film's production company. Neill, known for his role as Dr. Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park series, passed away on July 13th at the age of 78. If true, this would make his role in The Legend of Zelda film his last.

The antagonist Ganondorf will be portrayed by Australian actor Uli Latukefu, who is also recognized for his work in the sitcom Young Rock and the movies Black Adam, Next Goal Wins, and MaXXXine. The film, directed by Wes Ball, who previously directed The Maze Runner and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, is currently being produced in New Zealand.

It stars 17-year-old Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, who also appeared in House of the Dragon Series 3 as Viserys Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, as well as 22-year-old Bo Bragason as Zelda, known for her role in Amazon's new series Sterling Point.

The Legend of Zelda film is set to release on April 30th, missing Zelda's 40th anniversary year of 2026 by a few months. Additionally, a remake of the popular Zelda adventure Ocarina of Time is set to be released this year, possibly in November, alongside Grand Theft Auto 6. While only a few glimpses of the film have been released, initial reactions have been mixed due to its realistic new art style.
