Thailand School Shooting Leaves at Least Eight Dead

Seven individuals, including the suspected gunman, lost their lives in a school shooting incident on Friday in Thailand. The tragedy unfolded at Debsirin Nonthaburi School, located on the outskirts of Bangkok. As wounded students and teachers were swiftly transported to ambulances, emergency workers reported a harrowing scene, with one person found on a stretcher and another receiving medical attention.

An 18-year-old student initially mistook the sounds for firecrackers, only later realizing the severity of the situation. Police confirmed the shooter was among the deceased, and fifteen others sustained injuries. Education Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong revealed that both educators and pupils were among the fatalities, marking the second school shooting in Thailand this year following a similar incident in February.

A male teacher was found dead on an upper floor, while a female teacher sustained chest and arm wounds. Despite CPR efforts lasting 30 minutes, she was unable to be revived. Deputy Education Minister Akkharanan Kannakittinan expressed his commitment to providing necessary support. Gun ownership and gun violence have become increasingly prevalent in Thailand, with a string of high-profile shootings in recent years, including a devastating incident in 2022 where a former policeman killed 36 people, including 22 children, in a daycare center.

In July 2025, another gunman targeted a Bangkok market, resulting in five deaths before taking his own life. In Hat Yai, a southern city, a teacher tragically lost her life in February when a shooter opened fire at her school. In 2020, a soldier carried out a mass shooting in Nakhon Ratchasima, killing 29 individuals, and in 2023, a 14-year-old gunman inflicted two fatalities and injuries at a luxury Bangkok shopping center.
