Thai teen kills at least seven in shooting rampage at school and home

A teenage student fatally shot his grandparents with his grandfather's handgun before embarking on a shooting spree at a school near Bangkok, killing at least seven more people, according to police. The incident occurred at Debsirin Nonthaburi School in Nonthaburi province, which borders Bangkok. Police and emergency responders gathered outside the school as parents rushed to collect their children and distressed students and staff consoled each other.

Students recounted hearing loud gunshots and the fear of not being able to pursue their dreams. Fifteen injured students were not shot but were hurt while fleeing the scene. The shooter was identified as a student of the school and was also reported dead. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed shock and disgust at the incident, emphasizing that such incidents should not happen in their country.

This is the second school shooting in Thailand this year; the previous one involved a teacher who died and a student who was injured in the south of the country in February. Gun violence and gun ownership are not uncommon in Thailand, which has seen a series of deadly shootings in the past six years, some of which resulted in the deaths of children.
