Stephen Colbert’s Daughter Joins The Atlantic After ‘60 Minutes’ Exit

Madeleine Carlisle, daughter of comedian Stephen Colbert, has joined The Atlantic as a staff writer following her departure from "60 Minutes." The Atlantic announced Carlisle's hiring on Friday, noting her return to the magazine where she had previously worked as an editorial fellow in 2018 and 2019. Jeffrey Goldberg, Atlantic's editor-in-chief, expressed delight over her rejoining, highlighting her growth as a journalist.

Carlisle began her career at Time magazine, focusing on politics, law, and gender issues before transitioning to "60 Minutes." At the CBS news program, she worked alongside correspondents Scott Pelley, Anderson Cooper, and Cecilia Vega, contributing an Emmy-nominated story on crypto billionaire Changpeng Zhao. Carlisle's resignation from "60 Minutes" follows a series of departures from the iconic CBS news magazine, including former executive producer Bill Owens and correspondents Pelley and Vega.

These changes have been attributed to significant shifts at CBS News. Carlisle's move to The Atlantic coincides with her father's departure from CBS, following the cancellation of "The Late Show With Stephen Colbert" in May, a decision cited as financially motivated. Additionally, The Atlantic announced the hiring of Danyel Smith, formerly editor-in-chief of Vibe and Billboard, as a staff writer.
