Sophia Laforteza steps away from Katseye, the second member to depart this year

Vocalist Sophia Laforteza of the popular girl group Katseye has announced she will temporarily step away from the ensemble due to mental health concerns. This comes less than six months after fellow member Manon Bannerman also took a hiatus from the group. HYBE x Geffen Records stated that Laforteza will be unable to participate in upcoming promotional activities.

The label emphasized that prioritizing Laforteza's mental health and wellness is crucial. They noted that she has been receiving support from medical professionals and has been advised to focus on extended rest and ongoing care. While Laforteza expressing eagerness to perform with her members, the label's top priority remains the health, safety, and long-term wellbeing of all artists.

Laforteza shared her decision on Instagram, emphasizing that health and self-care should come first. She vowed to work hard to recover fully and return stronger. Katseye, which formed with six members in 2023 and was nominated for two Grammy Awards last year, will continue to perform at events with four members. The group has previously faced death threats from online harassment since their debut.

The label previously announced in February that Bannerman would take a temporary break for her health and wellbeing, but she has not returned. The decision to have Laforteza step away was made following open and thoughtful discussions within the group.
