Proposed strike by cabbies and gig workers in Telangana called off after breakthrough in talks

Negotiations between gig and platform workers' unions and the Telangana government have come to an end, leading to the cancellation of a proposed strike set for August 8. The talks, chaired by Labour Minister G. Vivek Venkatswamy, addressed various concerns including workers' welfare, social security, and pending demands. The minister affirmed the government's commitment to safeguarding the rights of gig workers and is currently drafting guidelines for the enforcement of the Telangana Gig Workers Welfare Act.

This act is expected to be officially notified soon. The minister emphasized that all the unions' demands would be considered with empathy and urged the workers to exercise patience while the implementation framework is finalized.
