Police arrest 9 over GH¢30,000 mobile money robbery at Fiapre, two dead from shooting

Nine suspects were apprehended by the Bono Regional Police Command in connection to a mobile money vendor's robbery and the fatal shooting that occurred at Fiapre-Zongo in the Sunyani West Municipality. Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah confirmed the suspects are aiding police with their investigations and will be processed for court proceedings.

The incident transpired on August 5th around 8:00 p.m., when police received a distress call reporting a robbery at Fiapre. Responding officers found the robbers had fled before their arrival. The victims identified were Amina Abu, 30, the mobile money vendor, along with Khadija Abu, 23, Anifa Tanko, 24, and Ibrahim Osei, 40, all suffering pellet wounds.

A fifth victim, an unnamed individual, was found with severe injuries behind Ibrahim Osei's residence. The victims were transported to the Sunyani Teaching Hospital for treatment, with Ibrahim Osei and the unidentified man succumbing to their injuries. Police found six BB cartridge casings at the crime scene, which are undergoing forensic examination.

Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects boarded a cattle truck heading towards Berekum before executing the robbery. Police intercepted two vehicles carrying cattle at the Twumasikrom checkpoint on the Fiapre-Berekum road. Nine suspects have been arrested in relation to the incident and will be processed for prosecution.

The Bono Regional Police Command is actively seeking other suspects believed to have eluded capture. The university town of Fiapre, home to many students from the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has been a source of concern since the incident. Fear and anxiety have gripped the student body, leading to messages being circulated urging them to remain vigilant and security-conscious.
