Pampaso chiefs invoke curses on Kumasi Mayor, Police Commander, Interior Minister over disputed land

The Pampaso Sub-Traditional Council in Kumasi has invoked traditional curses against three high-ranking officials – the Mayor of Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, and the Minister for the Interior – over a disputed piece of land. The council claims the land, situated near the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters and the Children's Hospital, originally belonged to the Pampaso Stool and was released for public use.

However, the council alleges that the police command has expanded beyond its original boundaries and allocated part of the disputed land to a private developer for commercial purposes. The Pampaso Gyaasehene, Nana Obeng Afriyie, stated that while the council does not object to the land lawfully granted to the government, it strongly opposes the unauthorized occupation of additional lands belonging to the Pampaso Stool without consent.

Nana Obeng Afriyie accused the Ashanti Regional Police Commander and the Mayor of lacking evidence to prove the property belongs to the police and hinted at the involvement of the Interior Minister in facilitating the alleged land takeover. In response, the Mayor denied any involvement in the alleged land grab, stating that neither he nor the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly played any role in the development of the disputed property.

The Mayor dismissed the curses, insisting he had done nothing wrong and warning that he would report the chiefs involved to the Asantehene if video evidence confirmed their actions. The council vowed to continue pursuing both traditional and legal means to protect the disputed land.
