Mexico break ranks to join Argentina in backing Infantino

The Mexican Football Federation (FMF) has defied its regional governing body, Concacaf, to back under-fire Fifa president Gianni Infantino. Concacaf had called for a "comprehensive reckoning" of Infantino's presidency after he canceled plans to sell stakes in the World Cup to private investors. However, Mexico and South American football governing body Conmebol have stood by Infantino amid calls for his resignation.

The FMF stated it would not recognize any process outside the institutional framework and joined Infantino's call for collective development of football. Conmebol expressed concern over Infantino's unilateral actions. Argentina's football association praised Infantino for acknowledging and apologizing for his errors, describing his tenure as focused on global soccer development and institutional strength.

Despite opposition from European football's governing Uefa and Concacaf, Infantino maintains support from the Confederation of African Football. European teams still have the option to boycott the World Cup, citing unmet conditions in Infantino's proposal. Uefa has lost confidence in Infantino, deeming the Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal "opaque".

The English FA withdrew its support, while several other associations have also distanced themselves from Infantino. The Asian Football Confederation expressed solidarity with Uefa and Concacaf's opposition to Infantino's plan.
