Lithuanian defense minister warns of possible Russian strikes on Baltic countries using captured Ukrainian drones

Lithuanian Defense Minister Robertas Kaunas has cautioned that Russia may consider striking critical infrastructure in the Baltic region using Ukrainian drones, Bloomberg News reports. Kaunas suggested that Russia could exploit the misconception that Baltic countries are allowing Ukraine to use their airspace for drone strikes against Russia.

Lithuanian intelligence officials revealed that Moscow might be contemplating this move due to this mistaken belief. However, Kaunas emphasized that there is currently no "direct threat" from Russia. Lithuania offers financial and technological support to Ukraine but does not authorize the use of its airspace for military operations.

Ukraine has been conducting regular drone strikes on Russian oil refineries in the Leningrad region since the spring of 2026; consequently, drones have been increasingly falling in the Baltic region countries. Russian Z bloggers have alleged that these states are unofficially permitting Ukraine to use their airspace for drone flights.
