Detroit Lions Pro Bowl running back Jahmyr Gibbs recently concluded a strenuous contract negotiation process, finally securing a record-setting deal that brought him financial security and the freedom to participate in practice once more. Expressing relief on Friday, Gibbs stated that the extensive negotiations had been "extremely stressful," as he had long yearned to return to the practice field and reconnect with his teammates and coaches.

The trio-year contract extension, finalized on Thursday, is valued at $67.5 million over three years, with the potential to reach $75.75 million given performance incentives. This impressive offer surpasses the contract signed by Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson earlier in the week. Upon signing the deal, Gibbs rejoined his teammates for only individual drills on Friday, emphasizing that putting the negotiations behind him was his biggest relief.

Three seasons into his NFL career, Gibbs has proven himself as a standout running back, leading the league in touchdowns scored by any player during that span. Despite initial doubts about the Lions' selection of Gibbs with the 12th overall pick in the 2023 NFL draft, he has consistently demonstrated his confidence in his abilities, surpassing the previous record of 47 touchdowns set by Hall of Famer Barry Sanders.
