The swearing-in of Abelardo de la Espriella as president of Colombia, live | The elected president arrives at the ceremony venue

Colombia is living through this Friday the transfer of presidential mandate between Gustavo Petro and Abelardo de la Espriella. With broken bridges between the outgoing and incoming governments, the 48-year-old ultra-rightist lawyer, winner of left-wing senator Iván Cepeda in the elections on June 21, receives the presidential sash in a ceremony that usually takes place in the National Capitol.

This time, in an unprecedented move, the incoming executive has decided to move it to Cali, the country's third city. Congressmen have moved to the capital of Valle del Cauca to attend the swearing-in, with the notable absence of legislators from the Pacto Histórico, Petro's party. Most of that formation will also be in Cali, but in popular demonstrations, while Cepeda led another in Barranquilla.

The legislative session started around 2:40 pm, with the mandatory roll call for any congressional meeting, and the president arrived at the place at around 4:15 pm.
