Industry, climate ministries team up to promote battery recycling industry

Seoul, August 7 - The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, have inked an agreement to bolster the battery recycling sector. This partnership aims to create a centralized platform for tracking battery trade and lifecycle, align certification protocols for recycled materials, refine associated regulations, and collaborate on research and development initiatives.

To expedite the implementation of these initiatives, both ministries will establish a consultative body at the working level. Lithium-ion batteries, integral to smartphones, electric vehicles, and energy storage systems, are composed of critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel. The government emphasizes the importance of a sustainable battery life cycle in propelling the battery industry as a pivotal growth sector in the future.
