'Hands off our Jantar Mantar': CJP reacts sharply to HC's remarks on protest site

The CJP, or Cockroach Janta Party, has strongly objected to the Delhi High Court’s comments regarding the use of Jantar Mantar as a protest site. The party vehemently rejected the idea of removing Jantar Mantar as a location for demonstrations, especially following the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister in the wake of the NEET-UG paper leak.

They demanded that the India Gate be considered as an alternative protest site, stating that the government should designate it as a designated protest site instead of Jantar Mantar. The Delhi Police has previously stated that Jantar Mantar is a designated protest site, and demonstrations can take place there with prior permission.

However, the court has expressed concerns that demonstrations at a central location like Jantar Mantar can disrupt the city’s normal functioning. The High Court’s bench of Justice Amit Mahajan questioned the necessity of protests in such a heavily congested area and suggested that the government should make the final decision on such matters.

The police have stated that they will decide on the proposed protest march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament by Saturday, and a PIL against the use of Jantar Mantar as a protest site is expected to be heard by the Supreme Court soon.
