Hakki Pikki people of Hassan seek help from CM to bring a woman of the community back from Ivory Coast

The Hakki Pikki community in Angadihalli, located in Belur taluk of Hassan district, has reached out to Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar for assistance in repatriating a community member back to India. The woman in question, Jyothi, a 46-year-old Hakki Pikki resident, fell ill during a recent trip to Ivory Coast and is currently hospitalized in Abidjan.

Jyothi's condition worsened, leading to her admission to a hospital where she is now in a coma. Her husband, Somu, is facing significant challenges in covering the medical expenses and arranging for his wife's return home. He has approached relatives in the village for support, but the need for additional resources remains pressing.

R. Punith Kumar, the president of the Karnataka Hakki-Pikki Budakattu Sanghatane, has urged the Chief Minister and the Ministry of External Affairs to intervene and facilitate Jyothi's safe return to her family. The Hakki Pikki community, known for their nomadic lifestyle and trade in plant extracts with medicinal properties, frequently journeys across international borders seeking business opportunities.
