Gen Z mourns as the 3-year journey of a content creator who documented her cancer ends with her death at 26

Sydney Towle, a 26-year-old social media content creator who documented her life with a rare form of cancer, has passed away, according to her family. She was diagnosed with cholangiocarcinoma, an aggressive cancer of the bile ducts, in August 2023. Her mother, Elizabeth Morrow, and brother, Austin Towle, confirmed her death in a video posted to her TikTok account, expressing their pride in her strength and gratitude for the support received throughout her illness.

Towle, who was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, and raised in Hobe Sound, Florida, was known for her positive attitude and resilience. At the time of her diagnosis at age 23, she had already built a substantial following on TikTok, boasting over 1 million followers. She fearlessly shared her experiences with the disease and treatment, maintaining her hobbies, interests, and optimistic demeanor.

Towle's mother highlighted how her daughter had become a beacon of hope for many, receiving messages of encouragement and support from people around the world who related to her vulnerability. After graduating from Dartmouth College in 2022, she worked as a social media manager at Epic Games and had planned to participate in the 2026 New York City Marathon to raise funds for the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation.

Her family remembered her as an "endless ray of sunshine" and a friend to many, and they expressed their appreciation for the messages of support they had received.
